Mutasem Al-Syoufi

Mutasem Al-Syoufi is the Executive Director of The Day After, an organisation supporting democratic transition in Syria. His civil and political engagement began in the early 2000s with the launch of the Damascus Spring and the Damascus Declaration, where he signed several statements calling for reform and political change, leading to security harassment. He played a founding role in the National Dialogue Forums in ٢٠٠٠ and was actively involved in independent student movements at the University of Damascus advocating for political and civic rights.
During the Syrian revolution, he supported peaceful mobilisation and participated in political initiatives aiming to unify opposition efforts. He later moved into the institutional space, supporting the empowerment of local councils and emerging civil organisations inside Syria. Since ٢٠١٧, Moatasem has served as Executive Director of The Day After and is also the official spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Dialogue Forum. He holds a Master’s degree in Construction Management from Kingston University and another in International Studies and Strategic Affairs from King’s College London. He is recognised for bridging academic insight with practical political action to advance Syria’s democratic transition.
