Membership terms and conditions

Terms and conditions of the membership agreement between Madaniya and its member organisations. 

Membership 

  • Every Syrian civil society organisation that aligns with Madaniya’s values and agrees to its membership terms and conditions can become a member of Madaniya. 
  • The membership of a member organisation is automatically renewed on annual basis, given the organisation's adherence to Madaniya’s values. Annual membership fees are due at the beginning of the membership year. 
  • Any member organisation has the right to suspend its membership with Madaniya after duly informing the executive team of the reasons. The membership is considered void with the end of the paid membership year. 
  • Madaniya has the right to terminate the membership of any organisation that proves to be in violation of the values of Madaniya. A percentage of the membership fees will be refunded to concerned organisations according to the date of membership termination. 
  • In case the circumstance calls for the termination of the membership of an organisation for a reason not related to violating the values of Madaniya, the concerned organisation shall be notified immediately, and the organisation shall be given a period of six months to overcome the defect, during which the membership of the organisation shall be suspended.  In the event that the organisation is unable to remedy the defect during this period, its membership will be terminated. The organisation will have the right to apply for membership again whenever it fulfils the conditions. 

Rights 

  • Events and Services: All Madaniya’s members have equal rights to participate in its events and benefit from its services regardless of their size, location, or sector of work. Events and services are designed on a regular basis in a participatory manner according to the principles of Madaniya, and in a way that commensurate with the needs, realities, and contexts of member organisations. 
  • Belonging and Representation: Members have the right to publicly indicate their membership in Madaniya, and to be referred to by Madaniya as a member organisation. In order to ensure independence and security, neither Madaniya nor member organisations are not entitled to speak on each other's behalf.  
  • Elections: All Madaniya’s members have equal rights to participate in the elections of Madaniya’s Board of Directors as stipulated in Madaniya’s Articles of Association

Duties 

  • Charter: Members agree to, and undertake to abide by the common vision, mission, and values stipulating Madaniya’s Charter. This charter will guide the areas of work that Madaniya will invest in to support its members and work with them to influence decision-making platforms related to Syria. 
  • Governance: Members agree to the Articles of Association that constitutes the reference document in Madaniya’s governance, including the terms of reference for the work of the Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors, its Chairman, its Committees, the Members’ Platform and the Executive Management of Madaniya. 
  • Fees: Members are obligated to pay their annual membership fee as determined by the application to join. 

Communication 

  • Each member organisation of Madaniya must have a representative on the members’ platform, acting as the main point of contact between Madaniya and the member organisation, as well as with other member organisations. This would facilitate the exchange of information and updates in a way that regulates the participation of members and helps in obtaining the best possible added value for their membership. 

Information Security 

  • Madaniya undertakes to abide by the Privacy and Data Protection policy in the treatment of any data it maintains about members, in accordance with the laws regulating this in the places of its license. 

General Note 

  • Madaniya is not a regulatory body. It therefore does not monitor or regulate the activities, outputs, or points of view of member organisations.
