Thuraya Hijazi

Thuraya Hijazi is a Syrian political and feminist activist and an economic expert with over 10 years of experience in economic empowerment, peacebuilding, and community organising in conflict-affected contexts. She holds dual Master’s degrees in Economics and Financial Management and was a lecturer at Damascus University before joining the revolutionary movement. Thuraya currently serves as the Executive Director of Transformative Pathways, an organisation that supports survivors of violence through empowerment programmes, leadership development, and community reconciliation. She also works as a community organising consultant for several civil society organisations and has supported campaigns focused on girls’ education, service delivery, and women-led peacebuilding. Additionally, Thuraya provides economic advisory services to development programmes supporting small and medium enterprises and contributes to designing sustainable economic and social initiatives inside Syria. Arrested in 2014 for her political activism, she continued her work to advance justice and civic participation. Thuraya is also a writer on political and feminist economics and serves on the Coordination and Follow-Up Committee of the Syrian Women’s Network..
