Samah Adwan

Samah Adwan is a visual artist, feminist, and civil society activist with extensive experience in education and community engagement. She taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University for nine years and has been active in civil society since 2011, focusing primarily on women’s rights and gender equality. Samah is a founding member and project coordinator at Nisan Organisation, which works on women’s empowerment and cultural initiatives. She is also a member of the Follow-Up Committee for the “Syrian Women for Democracy” coalition, which includes 17 feminist and women-focused organisations. Samah has contributed to several initiatives, including “Bidayatna,” “A Amal,” “Aamal Organisation,” and the Jaramana Civil Gathering. Currently, she serves as a member of the Jaramana City Council and works as a trainer in advocacy, gender-based violence, and gender-sensitive constitutions. Through her work, she strives to strengthen women’s participation in public life and advance inclusive, equitable local policies.
