Amina Khoulani

Amina Khoulani is the Vice Chairwoman of Madaniya. She is the co-founder of Families for Freedom, a women-led movement demanding justice and freedom for the forcibly disappeared in detention centers in Syria. She serves on the Board of Directors of numerous Syrian civil Society organisations, including the Syrian British Consortium and the Hurras Network, and a member of the Syria Resource Group, a multidisciplinary brain trust of Syrian experts working to support international governments develop principled policy options concerning Syria’s recovery. 
Ms. Khoulani co-founded the Darayya Youth Group for Peaceful Change in 2003 as an early advocate for a peaceful Syria. She survived the Syrian regime's prisons with her husband after being detained during the Syrian uprising for her participation in civic and non-violent demonstrations. Her three brothers, however, remain forcibly disappeared. Ms. Khoulani participated in the first official session held by the UN Security Council for the issue of detention in Syria and has received the International Women of Courage Award from the US State Department in 2020 in recognition of her efforts as a human rights defender.  
Ms. Khoulani holds a master’s degree in history and a diploma in Education from Damascus University.
