Ahmad Sheikh Sidi
Ahmad Sheikh Sidi is a civil society activist and the Director of the Centre for Civil Society and Democracy, with extensive experience in peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and civic participation. He began his humanitarian work in 2007 through grassroots initiatives and later joined the Syrian Red Crescent in 2008, eventually becoming the Head of its Afrin branch. In 2009, he was part of the “Mobaderoon” network in Aleppo, where he trained youth teams and coordinated community initiatives. During the Syrian revolution, Ahmad played a key role in organising peaceful mobilisation in Aleppo and led humanitarian response efforts for displaced families in 2012. Today, he leads the centre’s programmes focusing on peacebuilding, women’s participation, youth empowerment, and strengthening civil society. He is also a member of the UN Civil Society Support Room, the “Bridges of Truth” group on transitional justice, and a facilitator for the Basel Civil Group, dedicated to achieving democratic transformation and sustainable peace in Syria.
